Position 1

Position 1: Notice the First Event

The client floats up above the Time Line near Now, then moves just a little away from Now toward the past. From this safe, dissociated position the client notices the First Event below and behind.

Where the client is
Above the Time Line near Now, just a short distance back toward the past
Which direction the client faces
Facing the past (toward the First Event)
What the client notices
The First Event is below and behind, back toward the past. It is noticed, not entered.
What the practitioner watches for
The client stays above the Time Line near Now · Breathing stays steady and the voice stays calm · No detailed retelling of the memory is requested or required
Common mistake
The client moves too far back along the Time Line, drops inside the event, or begins experiencing strong emotion.
Corrective response
“Come back above Now, just a little away from Now, and notice the First Event from above.”

Exact practitioner script

“Just float up above your Time Line, right above Now, and then move just a little away from Now toward the past to Position #1, facing the past. When you get there, notice the First Event. Let me know when you're there.”
